My ol’ pappy once said, "Never eat a meal you can’t outrun." That’s good advice, I think. I assume what he meant was a derivative of the old adage; never bite off more than you can chew. Either that, or he’s completely off his nut like so many other Gifford men. But in keeping with the assumed theme of his statement, we’ve made a few changes to The Met Magazine this time around.

Jey's PortraitYou may notice that there are a lot of spiritual overtones in this issue of The Met, in our effort to reflect the Valley and its culture. We are sensitive to the ebb and flow of event themes and there seems to be a big focus on the spiritual arena this season. Pastor Cliff Watson of Calvary Chapel Valle Vista contributes this month’s "Faith in the Valley" article. I also spent some time speaking with John Tesh who is an exceptionally nice guy and an ultra-talented musician. And we interviewed local photographer Frank Bruynbroek whose photographs are, in their depictions of animals, a deep, spiritually moving experience.

Speaking of animals, April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month, and we’ve included some tips on how to prevent animal cruelty any time of year, where to get educated and involved, and some interesting quotes from prominent animal lovers. Log on to TheMetOnline.com for even more resources you can use to protect those who can’t protect themselves.

Our old friend The Angry Commuter is taking a little vacation this issue, but will return next time with another caper involving one of man’s most diabolical torture devices – the commuter car. By the way, he loves getting your emails, so you can now send your emails and funny commuter stories to him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

This issue we’re also introducing a new feature, "Ask Dr. B." The good doctor is not unlike a few other advice columnists, except that she’s interesting, fun, smart and… well, entirely unlike other advice columnists. We had to park a truckload of money on her driveway to get her to answer your questions in print and online, so send her some tough questions and help us get our money’s worth. Reach Dr. B. by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

A very special thanks goes out to Brynn Nodarse for stepping up and making this issue happen. Amongst the pressures of her impending PhD tests, she took on the duties of writing and editing a great deal of the content laid before you. Kudos for a job well done.

On a more somber note, my family and I will deeply miss our Aunt, Sally Thrasher who passed away on March 26th. I will always remember her smile, her big sloppy kisses and her ability to always heckle me into playing another song on the guitar for her.

Until we meet again.
